20 mm thick CNC milled stainless steel flange for building an custom exhaust manifold.
Fits every VAG 2.0 TFSI. The Port-Diameter is 40,3 mm.
All flanges are allover deburred, made in germany and from finest quality.
Warping during welding and operation:
The shape of this flange was selected with regard to smallest warping during welding. Tests have shown that the warpage can only be hardly measurable after welding.
Figure 4 shows the heat distribution when welding the pipes to the flange. However, the load case has been chosen to be maximum unfavorable and will hardly be feasible in reality.
The heat input of 3200 ° C takes place simultaneously on all four pipe attachments and completely around the pipe without considering the exposure time. In fact, the heat exposure is only point loaded.
Even with this unlikely application, the thermal difference between the welded pipe socket and the actual flange is more than 7 times smaller.
Fig. 5 shows the thermal profile over the flange when the ports are loaded with a gas with a temperature of approx. 1200 ° C.
Of course, the calculation only includes the flange without considering the effects of other parts like the cylinder head or the manifold pipes. Nevertheless, even after a long period of operation, a thermally induced warping is highly unlikely.
